PACQUIAO WON’T WAIT FOR MAYWEATHER MUCH LONGER

While Floyd Mayweather Jr takes his own sweet time to make a decision on whether or not to ink a contract placed before him for a planned November 13 megabuck showdown with pound-for-pound king and “Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao, indications are Pacquiao won’t wait much longer.

In fact insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports learned that Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz had met last night in Puerto Rico with WBO light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and one of his trusted assistants apparently to look at the possibilities of a rematch in November should Mayweather fulfill his desire to take a break for one year and hopefully face Pacquiao in 2011.

However, there are those who believe Mayweather is biding for time to return, hoping that Pacquiao with the demands on him as a results-oriented congressman would quit boxing to concentrate on his role as a catalyst for change and a stimulator of economic growth in Sarangani which is one of the poorest regions in the country.

But Top Rank promoter Bob believes that even if he fights Mayweather this year or the next Pacquiao will continue to fight so he could earn and help the poor people in his province.

The reported meeting between Koncz and Cotto who is also promoted by Top Rank indicated that Team Pacquiao is looking at other options and a rematch with Cotto from whom Pacquiao won the WBO welterweight title with a 12th round TKO last November looms as a real possibility.

Both Arum and Koncz had told us some time ago that the attraction of a Cotto rematch is that Pacquiao would have an opportunity to win and cement his place in boxing history as the champion in eight different weight divisions.

Koncz also had dinner with WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel even as indications are that should Philippine bantamweight champion Eden Sonsona win over Puerto Rican super bantamweight Jonathan Oquendo in a title eliminator on Sunday, Manila Time, he could get a title shot at champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. Continue reading here...
