Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum believes that the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather will be open again for negotiation in 2011. He has a strong feelings because of the rumors circling around the industry that Mayweather and Don King have been spending a lot of time together in the last two weeks.

Bob Arum mentioned that hed rather deal with DOn King than the Golden Boy Promotions, who is the current partner of Maywetaher in his last four fights.

Pacquiao says he'll agree to drug testing with a 24-day cutoff

The biggest fight in boxing is now on the table.

Manny Pacquiao dominated Joshua Clottey over 12 rounds at Cowboys Stadium in March. Floyd Mayweather Jr., dominated Shane Mosley on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

There are two issues at hand in the Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations: the issue of money and the random Olympic-style drug testing. The two sides sat down earlier this year and the two fighters could not agree on the cut-off date for the random drug testing. Following Saturday's win over Mosley, Mayweather said the Pacquiao fight could not be made without Olympic-style drug testing.

"If Manny Pacquiao can take a blood and urine test then we have a fight,'' Mayweather said. "If not, no fight.''

According to several reports, Pacquiao watched the fight in the Philippines and afterwards spoke to Manilla radio station DZBB. Pacquiao said that he's willing to agree to the random blood testing, but only if the testing has a cutoff date of 24 days.

"For me, as long as the drug test is not done close to the match, I'll agree because if they'll get blood from me close to the match, it will be a disadvantage for me because I'm smaller and he's big,'' Pacquiao said.

Mayweather dominates Mosley, stays unbeaten

LAS VEGAS -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. is usually content to just win a fight. This time, though, Money Mayweather wanted to earn his cash.

Fighting more aggressively than usual, Mayweather overcame a near knockdown in the second round Saturday night to dominate the rest of the way and win a lopsided 12-round decision over Shane Mosley in their welterweight showdown.
"I wanted to give the fans what they wanted to see, a toe-to-toe battle," Mayweather said. "It wasn't the same style for me but I wanted to be aggressive and I knew I could do it."

Boxing's biggest box office draw remained undefeated in 41 fights, but not before giving his fans and his corner a scare when a right hand to the side of his head buckled his knees a minute into the second, and he had to grab Mosley to avoid going down. Mosley landed another right later in the round, but the rest of the night belonged to Mayweather.

If he didn't please everyone, it was because he couldn't knock out Mosley. But Mayweather won every minute of every round after the second and the normally defensive-minded fighter kept after Mosley until the final bell in a masterful performance that earned him every dollar of his guaranteed $22.5 million payday.

"I think we could have pressed the attack a lot earlier, and then we could have got the knockout," Mayweather said.

LAS VEGAS -- Two boxing statesmen, both former world champions turned trainers, with a keen eye for the irreversible templates of the punch-for-pay game and the toll it takes, watch Floyd Mayweather intently. One has a vested interest in Saturday’s Mayweather-Shane Mosley fight. The other doesn’t.

Both think they see the same thing at play in the welterweight extravaganza, an experience they lived through during their own careers as active boxers.

Cornelius Boza Edwards and Roger Mayweather were world champions whose principal role in professional boxing was Hall of Fame gatekeeper, because almost anyone who beat them in their primes became an immediate candidate.

And the other thing is, the last time Shane fought, was more than a year ago. So all those things are combined.”

Roger Mayweather trains his nephew and has an obvious bias. He also is an astute observer of boxing and a student of its history who considers Mosley a great fighter and surefire Hall of Famer, with dangerous power and a big heart.

Andre Berto might be the next opponent of Pacquiao.

According to DigitalJournal.com Andre Berto is the possible opponent of Manny Pacquiao. There are two major events that boxing experts was watching for.

First is Andre Berto's win over Carlos Quintana of Puerto Rico last April 14, 2010. Berto won via KO in the eight round.

Secondly, a rematch option in the contract agreement of Mayweather-Mosley fight could jeopardize a Pacquiao-Mayweather match.

Mosley believes he will stop Mayweather

Shane Mosley believes he will stop Mayweather in their welterweight bout on May 1 in Las Vegas. If it happens as predicted, He will be the first fighter to beat Mayweather.

Mosley was quoted at sport.stv.tv saying,

"I think a lot of people who have fought Floyd have let his talking get to them and they go into the fight angry,” said Mosley, who has never been knocked out. “They are fighting with their emotions when they are in the ring. I'm not going to do that. I know how I want to fight Floyd and I know what I want to happen, so I am going to do what I have to do to win."

"A victory over Floyd Mayweather would definitely rank in my top victories. It would let people know that once again they overlooked Sugar Shane Mosley and that was a mistake."

"Floyd is a great fighter and there are a lot of different things he can bring to the ring. But there are a lot of things I bring as well. On May 1 we are going to find out who the real chess player is.”

Shane Mosley, 46-5(39 KOs) promised not to be distracted with the trash talking of Floyd Mayweather Jr. He will be more focus with his goal, to blemish the unblemished record of Mayweather, 40-0(25 KOs).

Evander Hollyfield stops Frans Botha in 8th

Evander Hollyfield(43-10-2, 28 KOs) takes the World Boxing Federation Heavy Weight title by stopping Frans Botha(47-5-3) in the eight round. Frans Botha is the defending champion and yielded the crown to Hollyfield.

The 47 years old Hollyfield knock out the 41 years old Botha with 2:05 left in the eighth, the later get up from his feet but the referee stop the fight later.

This fight was the first of Hollyfield after 16months. He was behind the scorecard of the two judges after the referee, Russell Mora stopped it.

Two judges, Jerry Roth and Glenn Feldman, had Botha ahead 67-66 when the fight was stopped. The other judge, Herb Santee, had it 69-64 for Holyfield.

Hollyfield mentioned to the media that he will seek more title fights.

"I'm going to be the undisputed world heavyweight champion," he said.

Holyfield fights Botha, doubters in ring tonight

Evander Holyfield refuses to go away.

The former four-time heavyweight champion insists he still has the skills to regain the world title, though he's 47, last held a belt nearly 10 years ago and has lost two fights in a row.

"I've been hearing for a while that I can't do it," he said. "All it does is light a fire under me to prove people wrong.

"I can still fight. I don't want to leave until I've become the undisputed heavyweight champion one more time. That's been my goal the entire time."

If Holyfield can't beat 41-year-old Frans Botha tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center, he might as well leave the ring for good. But Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 knockouts) said this fight is a step toward meeting the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali, who own three of the four titles.

"After I whup up on Botha, I want the Klitschkos," said Holyfield, who last won a heavyweight title Aug. 12, 2000, when he beat John Ruiz at Paris Las Vegas for the vacant WBA belt.

If Holyfield wins -- he's a 3½-1 favorite -- he'll do so largely in anonymity. By Friday afternoon, only 2,000 tickets had been sold, leaving promoter Crown Boxing, which is paying Holyfield $150,000 plus a pay-per-view percentage, to hope for a large walk-up crowd. Even $25 lower-bowl seats are going unsold.

Holyfield-Botha is also going head to head against a Top Rank card at the Hard Rock Hotel that has tickets priced as low as $20. There's also the Andre Berto-Carlos Quintana welterweight fight on HBO. And if that wasn't enough competition, there's UFC 112, a mixed martial arts card in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, available on pay per view.

Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones Jr - Live Fight

Bernard "the executioner" Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr will face on April 3, 2010 for their rematch.
Hopkins is 45 while Roy Jones Jr is 41. They first met in the boxing ring 17 years ago. During that time, their career is peaking.

The Rivals II will be at Mandalay Bay Arena and it will be shown in HBO pay-per-view.

According to nydailynews.com, The first fight between the two in 1993 was a stinker. Jones won a 12-round unanimous decision to win the vacant IBF middleweight title. Both have said that this fight will be much different, much better because of the heat that has built up over the 17 years.

Jones has guaranteed a knockout, primarily as a selling point for the promotion. But what happens if Hopkins knocks out Jones?

"If he can hurt me then after this one maybe it's time to hang it up," Jones said.

Aging legends Jones, Hopkins face off in rematch 17 years later

They are a combined 86 years of age and have 116 pro fights between them.

They both have Hall of Fame résumés, and both are Hall of Fame trash-talkers.

They met in the ring once, long ago, when both were young and hungry.

Now, 17 years later, Roy Jones Jr. and Bernard Hopkins, well past their primes, are finally realizing a rematch. They will meet in a 12-round, non-title light-heavyweight bout Saturday night at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas (HBO pay-per-view, 9 p.m. ET).

The 17-year span between fights is believed to be the second-longest in modern boxing history, behind Larry Holmes-Mike Weaver (1979 and 2000).

Jones, 41, is 5-5 in his last 10 fights, and has been knocked out three times, including a first-round TKO by Australian Danny Green in Sydney in December.

Hopkins, 45, has been far more successful after age 40, having won four of his last five fights, including wins against champions and former champions such as Antonio Tarver, Kelly Pavlik and Winky Wright. His only loss, a split decision, was to now-retired undefeated super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe.

Hopkins credits his success to a strict diet and workout regimen supervised by noted personal trainer Mackie Shilstone, who has also worked with Jones.

"It's all about the person's style, lifestyle, the way he takes care of himself, and last but not least, genetics," Hopkins says. "I always come in shape."

Hopkins likes to say he does things his own way, not the way most others do it.

Thus he will have a friend, New York children's apparel magnate and part owner of the New Jersey Nets, Artie Rabin, sing Frank Sinatra's My Way as Hopkins enters the ring Saturday. Rabin will have help from Elvis Presley's old backup singers, the Sweet Inspirations.

Mayweather fight possible, says Roach

MANILA, Philippines—Freddie Roach, the American trainer who guided Manny Pacquiao’s ascent to boxing’s pantheon, believes that his now-iconic ward may yet step into the ring against undefeated superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Roach said that a compromise could be reached by both squads regarding drug-testing protocols and that compromise could include Pacquiao dropping his libel suit against Team Mayweather.

“I’m sure there’s going to be a tradeoff between Manny dropping the lawsuit and (Mayweather) dropping the (demand for Olympic-style) drug test,” Roach told ESPN’s Jim Rome.

The bout between boxing’s biggest names was shelved when Mayweather demanded strict blood testing. He alleged that Pacquiao cut through weight lines with the help of performance-enhancing drugs to make history.

That allegation is also the heart of Pacquiao’s lawsuit against the Mayweathers.

But Roach feels that the fight, which could fetch both fighters at least $40 million each in guaranteed purses and pay-per-view shares, is still going to get made, especially if Mayweather survives his testy May 1 bout against fellow American Shane Mosley.

HBO presented a face to face segment featuring the two fighters of May 1, 2010 bout in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather Jr and WBA champion Shane Mosley. HBO's Max Kellerman sat down with the two fighters.

Both fighters trade words face to face and looks like they wanted to fight today.

Mosley said - "May 1st is going to symbolize Mayweather's first loss."

Mayweather response - "He's a fighter, he's supposed to say that, but guess what - there is no blueprint on how to beat me."

Manny will give Floyd lots of trouble, says Clottey

LOS ANGELES – After tasting Manny Pacquiao’s fists of fury over the weekend before a mammoth crowd in Dallas, Joshua Clottey didn’t mince words in saying that the Filipino could give Floyd Mayweather the same harsh treatment in the event they agree to face each other sometime this year.

“Manny Pacquiao will give Floyd Mayweather a lot of trouble,” said Clottey. “I am giving him a very good chance (of beating Mayweather).”

Clottey found out how evasive and fast and heavy-handed Pacquiao was at Cowboys Stadium as he opted to just cover up instead of engaging the Filipino fireball in heated exchanges for fear that he might trek the path that the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

While talks have yet to be revived for a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout considering that Mayweather has to clear a major stumbling block on May 1 against Shane Mosley, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum is not closing the door on the possibility of meeting up with Mayweather's representatives.

Arum, however, insists that for the megabuck matchup to finally come to fruition, Mayweather has to drop his silly demands for Olympic-style drug testing.

Before Clottey was made to substitute for Mayweather, the camps of Pacquiao and Mayweather had agreed on major points of the contract but Mayweather suddenly came out with a demand that sent the negotiations to the sewer.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, has openly stated that he is aching to get his hands on the brash Mayweather although the identity of his next opponent would only begin to take shape after the Mayweather-Mosley bout.

If Mosley upsets Mayweather, Pacquiao might even be tempted to meet Mosley, who is a live underdog despite his age (38-years old) and ring inactivity.

Mosley hasn't fought since stopping Antonio Margarito in January 2009.

Pacquiao fight hikes power use by 100 MW

AN ALREADY struggling power sector in the country had to contend with an expected increase of 100 megawatts (MW) with the match between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey, Sunday.

Data from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) systems operations group showed a 100 MW spike in power demand every time Pacquiao, the Filipino boxing icons, goes up the ring.

A television set can consume power from 130-380 megawatts depending on the model. Add to that the malls, movie houses and other commercial establishments that are also expected to open for business at a much earlier time to accommodate customers who want to watch the fight live via satellite on big screens.

Power demand on a regular Sunday is between 800 MW to 900 MW, thus it was expected that Sunday's demand was between 900 MW to 1,000 MW.

Despite the 100 MW increase, a "Pacquiao Sunday" demand is just equivalent to a regular day's off peak demand.

Manny Pacquiao won via a unanimous decision against Joshua Clottey. Judges score 120-108, 119-109, 119-109. It's a one sided fight. Pacquiao throws a lot of punches. Manny landed 246 of 1231 punches thrown, Clottey landed 108 of 399.

Clottey has his chances but Pacquiao is too much. One judge score 11-1 and the other two scores 12-0.

Pacquiao-Clottey makes weight limit

PACQUIAO and CLOTTEY fight will be push through. Both fighters makes the weight limit. Pacquiao is 145 pounds while Clottey is 147 pounds which is the weight limit.

"I feel so good. I'm determined and I'm ready. I have my gameplan. I know Manny is a good fighter but I'm ready for him. I'm ready to show the world who Joshua Clottey is," Clottey was quoted as saying in an article on SportingLife.com.

"I'm not going to promise a knockout but I'll do my best to make people happy. I don't want them to be disappointed on Saturday night. People are going to be surprised by our strategy," Pacquiao was quoted as saying in an article on inquirer.net.

The two fighter will slug it out tomorrow at Dallas Cowboys Stadium. A huge crowd will be expected to see this boxing fight dub as "THE EVENT".

Not a Super Bowl, but Pacquiao an event

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The czar of boxing was so devastated the fight didn't happen, it took him weeks to get over it.

The (not Don) King of promoters was so mad he could barely utter Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s name.

And the emperor of Dallas felt like he had just lost the Super Bowl.

"I wanted that fight here with those two fighters worse than my next breath," Jerry Jones said.

The fight, of course, was Mayweather against Manny Pacquiao, and it fell apart despite the frenzied efforts of some of the biggest names in boxing and one of the biggest egos in Texas. If not for a nasty dispute over blood testing, it might have filled Cowboy Stadium and given Jones the kind of megafight he believes his new $1.2 billion edifice rightfully deserves.

Instead, he had to settle for the hottest fighter in the game. He got Pacquiao, but even a salesman like Jones can't fool anyone into believing Joshua Clottey is Mayweather.

So he's selling Pacman. He's selling the event which, appropriately enough, is titled "The Event."

Mostly, he's selling his stadium.

"This is going to be big time," Jones said. "I'm going to over-deliver."

That should make the 45,000 fans expected to show up Saturday night happy, and it will certainly please de facto boxing boss Ross Greenburg and promoter Bob Arum. They couldn't put together the fight that everyone wanted, but, between the show in Dallas and the May 1 show featuring Mayweather against Shane Mosley in Las Vegas, they've rebounded to produce a decent substitute.

They've also gotten a new ally for the sport in Jones, who is already better at selling fights than he is at picking wide receivers.

"The thing that's blown me away is what an unbelievable promoter this guy is," Arum said. "He never gets tired. We took a two-day trip to Mexico and he was able to drink everybody under the table and kept going. He gave dozens and dozens of interviews to Mexican media outlets. It's really something to see."

Manny Pacquiao 'will knock out Joshua Clottey'

Manny Pacquiao has insisted he will become the first man to knock out the formidably physical Ghanaian Joshua Clottey when the two welterweights collide at the newly-built Dallas Cowboys Stadium, in Texas on Saturday night.

Freddie Roach, who has a penchant for proving pinpoint accurate in his predictions, said Pacquiao’s victory will come by knockout in his defence of the World Boxing Organisation 147lb belt.

Eerily accurate with his visions of how Pacquiao’s last three fights – against Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto – would unfold, Roach originally predicted a ninth-round knockout of Clottey, but is that confident that “perfect preparation” could result in a sixth- or seventh-round knockout.

That goes against conventional wisdom. Clottey, with 35 wins from 39 contests, has never been knocked out in his three defeats (one draw) to date with two of those on points, and one by disqualification.

Pacquiao, 50-3-2, with 38 knockouts, remains the only boxer ever to notch up world titles in seven weight divisions. “Manny is in the best shape of his life, and looked very, very sharp in our final sessions. I’ve never seen him sharper,” said Roach, trainer of the year in the United States for the last three years, who turned 50 this week.
